Disney’s latest anticipated release is slated to hit theaters next month for Thanksgiving – but parents may want to skip this upcoming movie, due to what appears to be a heavier-handed dose of witchcraft and occult themes.

The new film, Hexed, follows the story of Billie Doe, voiced by Hallie Steinfeld. Billie has a secret talent, you see: she’s a witch. And while the trailer isn’t entirely clear about WHAT the storyline is, she apparently gets mentored by a three-eyed-cat (voiced by the unmistakable Walton Groggins) when she enters a new world of witches and magic. Here, she goes on a journey of self-discovery and tumultuous adventure.

Originally, the movie was reportedly supposed to be centered on an awkward teenage boy and his mother, but the premise shifted throughout production, and by 2026, the character focus shifted to Billie – a teenage girl whose awkwardness is actually – surprise! – magic powers.

Here is the official synopsis from the film from Disney+:

Prepare to trade high school and suburbia for a spellbinding world of magic. In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature, impulsive teen Billie discovers that she has magical powers and embarks on an adventure-filled mission with her cautious mother. Watch the trailer and get more details on Disney’s Hexed, starring Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones, before the movie releases exclusively in theaters Thanksgiving weekend.

The trailer can also be viewed at the bottom of this article.

Disney films often center on magic (think Neverland, Pixie dust, Pinocchio, etc.), but Hexed appears to bring a newer, darker, and more occult approach to filmmaking. While it’s impossible to give a comprehensive review of the movie ahead of its release (a review will come eventually here on CCM), Christian parents may pause before allowing their little ones to watch this film.

Former psychic-turned-Christian Jenn Nizza, for example, told CBN News that Disney’s presentation of witchcraft in Hexed was akin to Satan “masquerading as an angel of light.”

“It’s so important to disregard the aesthetic, because it’s the same evil and it’s the same author of these practices: the devil,” she told the outlet.

She added, “This isn’t just a movie. This is implanting and brainwashing the demonic agenda into your minds and into the minds of your children.”

What do YOU think? Should Christian parents allow their kids to watch this movie? Or is the storyline a little too dark?

Watch the trailer and weigh in with your thoughts – let us know if you’ll be taking your kids to see Hexed, or if you’ll be skipping it.

“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions… I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Galatians 5:19-21
