Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, signaling a huge national win for the pro-life movement and Christians everywhere who value the lives of the precious unborn.

Despite the legality of abortion being returned to the states, there are still many states that allow and incentivize abortion (like California), and these procedures are still happening everywhere. According to the Pew Research Center, there were over 625,000 abortions in the U.S. in 2022, but after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2023, over one million abortions were still performed – the highest number in years.

The data is clear. Americans are still getting abortions by the tens of thousands, and like it or not, it’s up to Christian pro-lifers to work in their respective states to make positive changes that encourage women to choose life for their babies.

Abortion not only results in the death of an innocent child, it causes lifelong emotional trauma and pain for the mother – and often, the father.

Consider this excerpt from the testimony of Kendra Dahl – a mother who chose abortion years ago, but turned to the Lord later in life:

Abortion is sin. Like all other sin, it’s a grievous offense against a holy God. Our only hope is to repent and believe the gospel. And when we’ve done so, we must stand firm under the assurance of pardon, even in the face of our doubts and Satan’s accusations (1 John 1:9Rom. 8:1).

But abortion is also trauma, devastating body and soul. It takes a knife to our image-bearing nature as life-givers—and no one walks away from a knife fight without being at least a little mangled. It requires not only repentance, but also healing.

Abortion-related trauma affects everyone differently, but one thing is clear: Jesus Christ offers healing and hope from that trauma in a way that no one and nothing else can. “The truth that Jesus has made me blameless before God isn’t a platitude but my source of deepest hope,” Dahl writes.

Abortion is a heated topic in today’s society. It has been used as a political puzzle piece and has been championed by everyone from athletes to Hollywood celebrities. But God’s Word is clear: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13)

Life is valuable. Every life. No matter how big or how small. Humans were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and no child deserves to be terminated in the womb.

“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image,” says Genesis 9:6.

As Christians, we have a moral duty to speak the truth about the pain and trauma of abortion. We have an obligation to ensure that our condemnation of abortion does not overshadow the saving Gospel message of Jesus Christ, and how He alone can transform lives and heal broken hearts.

No one knows this better than Robin Gerblick, a certified Biblical life coach who chose to have two abortions earlier in her life. She talks about how this trauma affected her life, and how Jesus changed her heart. Her story is heartbreaking and moving, and it provides an incredible testimony of the saving and healing power of Christ in the wake of society’s lies that abortion is “no big deal.”

“Abortion is a form of trauma, and many people who have undergone the procedure are suffering from a type of PTSD,” says Robin Gerblick, a certified Biblical life coach. Robin shares her experience of having two abortions and how it detrimentally affected her physical and mental health for decades. She never knew there was life growing inside of her before she aborted her children – nobody told her, and abortion clinics purposely didn’t make that information available to her. Robin also didn’t know how painful or grueling the abortion procedure would be. There are immediate and long-term consequences of abortion, and they will manifest in every area of life. It’s so important to help women understand the true effects of abortion before they make a detrimental decision.
