A strong Christian man is much-needed in a world rife with godlessness, perversity, and confusion.
In 1 Corinthians 16:13, the Bible reminds us to be watchful and to “stand firm in the faith, act like MEN, be strong.” A godly and wise man is to be respected. A godly man is usually an excellent leader not only in his home, but also in his community. Strong men are not necessarily physically strong – they are spiritually strong. They display the fruits of the spirit. They are trustworthy, faithful, and charitable. “The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them,” says Proverbs 20:7.
Modern America has struggled to overcome an epidemic of weakness – weakness of the church, weakness in leadership, and weakness in morality. One might argue that this weakness, ultimately, stems from the weakness of modern men. Men who are rudderless without Christ, men who are confused by narratives and ideologies of gender identity, and men who refuse to lead but instead are always stuck following others.
When men do not understand their identity in CHRIST, it becomes difficult to discern what is worth fighting for, defending, protecting, and proclaiming.
Godly men exemplify these traits:
- Righteousness
- Faith,
- Godliness,
- Love,
- Steadfastness,
- Gentleness.
These attributes are not random. They come straight from 1 Timothy 6:11-12. The book of Titus also includes much detail about the character of a godly man. Here, Becky Pliego (a Christian blogger) sums it up: a godly man must be above reproach, have only ONE wife (for all those who think the Bible approves of polygamy – it doesn’t!), he must not be arrogant, he must not be quick to anger, he must not be a drunk, he must not be violent, and he must not be greedy.
How do we ensure that our young boys grow up to be godly MEN? Time, intention, and training. Proverbs 22:6 gives us the blueprint: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” The older men must take the time to train up the YOUNGER men (or in a parents’ case: boys) to understand God’s Word and to practically apply it to everyday life (refer to the book of Titus).
One ministry that saw the need for shaping young boys into godly men is Iron Academy, a school for boys that focuses on mentoring and cultivating the seeds of God’s truth and strength in young minds and hearts. This incredible academy was started by Alan Hahn, who provides curriculum, training, and community for boys. It also helps fathers learn how to not only connect with their sons, but raise them in the light of the Word.
God designed our boys to grow up to be men of valor, integrity, and truth. Check out Alan’s interview with the Counter Culture Mom below. You won’t want to miss it!

Restoring God’s Design for Manhood in a Generation That Has Lost Its Way – Alan Hahn, CEO of Iron Academy
Our society has neglected to raise boys to be great men. Modern culture has abandoned traditional rites of passage that demand a departure from boyhood and a transition into manhood. This stark reality is a problem that Alan Hahn not only observed but is addressing right now with a special ministry aimed at forging purpose and a brotherhood for boys. Boys, who are eagerly learning to become men of God. Alan is the CEO and founder of Iron Academy, a school that provides curriculum, community, and training for young men who seek courage, conviction, and honor rooted in the Word of God. Iron Academy is a Bible-based pathway for cultivating healthy, nurturing, and powerful manhood the way that God designed it.
