Is it fun to wait for something you really want or need? In life, we often find ourselves waiting for something – perhaps it’s a new job, a bigger paycheck, an avenue to a better life, Mr. Right (or Mrs. Right), or the promise of a bigger family.
Waiting can be difficult. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for their miracle baby, Isaac, to be born. The Israelites had to wait and wander in the desert for 40 years before they could enter the Promised Land because of their disobedience. Jacob waited 14 long years to marry the woman he loved. Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, and Rebekah all waited and waited to have a child. Even Jesus Christ himself waited until he was 30 to begin His ministry on Earth.
Waiting – like it or not – is just a part of life.
But it can be painful, especially when it feels as if God is ignoring us. He’s not, of course, but that’s how we feel at times. Our human emotions are frayed and fragile, and the worries and problems of this life can seem all too much. If you’re in a period of waiting, just know this: God always keeps His promises, and He loves you very much.
In Matthew 6:26-27, Jesus says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Seasons of waiting can test our faith, but rest assured – you will emerge stronger because of it.

There’s always something we’re waiting on, and women are especially impacted by this feeling – there’s always something else we feel we may need to fulfill our lives! It is this very feeling and real wrestling that inspired Elizabeth Laing Thompson to write her book, When God Says Wait: Navigating Life’s Detours and Delays Without Losing Your Faith, Your Friends, or Your Mind. Waiting on dreams and waiting on the fulfillment of the deepest desires of our hearts can sometimes damage our relationship with God. Does He not love us enough to answer our prayers? These types of difficult questions are important to consider, and Elizabeth reminds us that, “Waiting can test our relationship with God.” How will it test you? Will you choose to trust Him?
