Thanksgiving month is here! The countdown to family dinners, cozy Autumn fireside chats, hot chocolate, and brisk, late-night breezes is here. It’s a beautiful time of year, and as the sun sets earlier every night and the holiday season rapidly approaches, it’s important to stop and thank God for what He has given us. 

As the presidential election looms on Tuesday, do not be afraid. God has not given us the spirit of fear. We can rest assured that our God is bigger than any presidential election – but as Christians, we must be praying for our country every day – praying for nationwide repentance, revival, and protection. This is essential.

This is the perfect moment to set aside some time for prayer and thankfulness. To reflect on all that we have and to pray over your country – pray that America would turn to the Lord for help and hope. Pray for America to find Jesus. Pray for the protection of our people, the healing of our moral failures, and the assuagement of our hurting society, marred by rising crime and perched on the verge of world war.

Prayer is so important and so very powerful. Jesus said this in Matthew 18:19-20: “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Prayer has power. Do not hesitate to pray in the coming days. Don’t allow the election to cause you undue anxiety or anger. Rely on God, rest in Him, and look toward the future, no matter what it may hold.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” says Psalm 56:3.

While we are enjoying the early days of Autumn – and the chaos of election season – just remember that God is with you. He loves you. And it is important to pray, pray, pray for your country during this time in our nation’s history.
