Is your little one graduating this year? Whether it’s a preschool graduation, high school, or college, celebrating life’s milestones is part of the human experience – and who doesn’t love an excuse to dig into a little cake and raise a toast or two?
2024 might be tumultuous and chaotic in our nation and abroad, but the importance of acknowledging the accomplishments of those you love remains the same. Don’t fear the future – embrace it with open arms and your feet planted firmly on God’s Word.
Here are a few prayers you can pray over your graduate, whether it’s a friend or a family member, that will bless them in more ways than you can imagine!
Pray for guidance in their life
Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path.” Pray for your graduate to be guided and shepherded by the Good Shepherd in every area of their life, whether it’s in education, work, relationships, or love.
Pray for their protection
The end of an educational chapter can give way to exciting but sometimes intimidating new adventures! Pray for your graduate’s protection, especially in today’s chaotic world – protection for their minds, hearts, and physical bodies.
Romans 8:37-39 reminds us, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Pray for their peace
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) These words of Jesus Christ are a wonderful comfort today, especially as the globe seems to be sparking off with one conflict after another.
Pray for your graduates’ peace, that the Lord would quiet their busy minds and give them a still and steady sense of the Holy Spirit’s presence.
Pray for their blessing
Prayer is a powerful tool – use it! The Bible has a LOT to say about praying for others, and it has effectively been used as a wonderful way to build a relationship with God while loving our brothers and sisters in Christ.
James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Pray for their faith
If your graduate isn’t saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, this is the MOST important thing you can pray for! There is nothing more important than their eternal salvation!
In John 11:25-26, this story is a wonderful summary of what it means to be saved: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?’”
