Let’s pray for Israel today in the wake of the Hamas invasion

Over the weekend, news broke that Hamas terrorists had invaded Israel by air, land, and sea, resulting in the most catastrophic invasion of the Holy Land since 1973 in the Yom Kippur War.

Horrifying videos have circulated online that have illustrated the gruesome attacks from the terrorists, as they have beaten, raped, and butchered countless Israeli women, and murdered men and children indiscriminately – and anyone who was visiting Israel. It is reported that Americans have also been taken hostage by Hamas.

This incursion, of course, is another violent chapter in the ongoing struggle between Israel and Palestine, who have warred for what seems like eons over the Gaza Strip. Even more disturbingly, the Wall Street Journal reported that Hamas has confirmed that their savage attack against unarmed Israeli citizens was backed by Iran.

Just a few short years ago, there was relative peace on the global stage. Now, the world has fallen into catastrophic chaos, as Hamas and Israel are now at war, and the rest of the Middle East will likely follow suit. Additionally, as Russia and Ukraine continue to battle, China is growing stronger.

We are facing a rapid escalation of global violence that could easily send us spiraling into World War III.

Considering the merciless slaughter of Israelis at the hands of Hamas terrorists, Christians must remember that Israel is indeed a meaningful place for those who follow Christ.

Deuteronomy 7:6 reminds us, “For you [Israel] are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession”

Jesus, of course, was ethnically Jewish when He came to Earth. He walked the Holy Land. He died outside Jerusalem at Golgotha, and three days later, rose again, vanquishing death and offering salvation to those who place their trust in Him.

The Bible makes it very clear that Israel is special to the Lord – God’s chosen people. As Christians, we must pray for the peace and protection of Israel. Please keep the nation of Israel in your prayers this week and going forward – the war is ongoing, and there is a long road ahead.

Many people have been brutally murdered, and their surviving friends and family members will carry the pain of this attack for life. They need the peace, comfort, and love of Christ. I encourage you to pray for Israel often, and to pray, also, for the protection of our own nation against the kind of hostility that Hamas would like to bring to our own shores.

Jeremiah 31:1-4

“At that time,” declares the Lord, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people.” Thus says the Lord,
“The people who survived the sword
Found grace in the wilderness—
Israel, when it went to find its rest.”
The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying,
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.
