Award Season Is Here! Who Will Be On Top?

by Debbie Steinberg

Award Season in Hollywood!

Full of glamour, prestige, and Hollywood’s headliners.

Did you watch the Golden Globes? Are you anticipating the Grammy’s? It feels like Hollywood has faded a bit into the background this past year. The award ceremonies that usually kick off in January create a buzz of energy as fans tune in to watch the stars. The popular Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and the Emmy’s provide an evening of red-carpet glamour, shiny awards, and intimate acceptance speeches from the stars. We get to celebrate our favorites and note what we may have missed!

This year everything rolled out quite differently. Movie releases were canceled or delayed, movie theaters shut down, and families turned to stream services for entertainment. Here’s a snapshot of the award season that is in progress.

The Golden Globes

After a two-month delay, the Golden Globes for film and television finally debuted on February 28. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler joined together for their 4th time and hosted the evening virtually from coast to coast locations.  Acceptance speeches from the stars were delivered from hotel rooms and living room couches. Technical glitches throughout the evening added a new twist for viewers of the award show. Consequently, critics gave the evening poor reviews. Furthermore, it appears that Hollywood has lost its luster with a significantly lower number of viewers tuning in this year (6.9 vs.18.9 in 2019).

As usual, there were the expected wins and the unexpected victories.
