Popular Netflix Series Endorses Cussing, Rebellion, and Seduction

by Erin Bevins

Are your kids asking to watch Stranger Things on Netflix and you’re not sure if it’s something you want them to see? Check out this quick review to find out what season 3 entails.

While Stranger Things season three does not push a liberal/openly immoral agenda, it’s questionable at best. Released on July 4, 2019, some say it even leads people towards a Christian worldview when it comes to fighting good and evil due to the spiritual battles portrayed. The show features a ‘portal to another world’ called the ‘Upside Down’ which represents unknown battles that are always brewing below the surface. Here’s a great Christian perspective on this new series regarding the portal to another world.

Stranger Things Plot

I’ll admit, I watched all three seasons of Stranger Things. I thought, how bad can a show be if it features pre-teens in the 80’s?! Well, I found out soon enough. According to the description of the series on IMDB, the story originally started, “When Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl.”

Red Flags in Season 3

The main focus of the show, and especially season three, is the friends banding together and doing anything it takes to uncover and eradicate the evil force that is infiltrating their small town. The pre-teen characters show courage, loyalty, and true friendship throughout the show and some are even willing to give up their lives to save their friends! Sounds innocent enough, right?  However, Netflix is up to its old tricks again of pushing a liberal agenda into almost every episode and as the kids are nearing 15-16 years old by season 3, things start to go downhill fast.

In season three you’ll find:

  • a lot of cussing, including numerous uses of the Lord’s name in vain
  • rebellious high school student is seducing a married woman with no consequences revealed
  • teen girl flirts heavily with a guy only to tell him that she she actually likes girls, not guys

Way to go, Netflix! (sarcastic here) We almost got by without filling the homosexual reference quota, but they threw it in towards the very end just to send it over the edge in terms of anything remotely family friendly. What I’ve noticed is that many, many shows start out clean and positive and then after we get hooked to the characters, plot, etc. usually season 3 the true agenda of the show is right in our face. Problem is, millions of teens adopt this agenda and are conditioned to believe the lies being promoted through the series. And with all their friends watching, it’s hard to disengage even if they don’t agree with what is happening

My advice? Do not allow your kids to watch Stranger Things and instead, get Tina’s positive entertainment media guide loaded with messages that are filled with life-giving plots. Teens will be less suicidal, depressed, and sexually active if they fill their minds with Godly principals instead of this Hollywood hogwash. To get Tina’s free parent media guide, click here.

By your comment to my blog post, I’m assuming you watch this series? Try to express your thoughts and have a meaningful conversation without the name calling. You’re proving my point by responding in this manner. First, skip the cussing and second, tell me why you don’t agree instead of calling me names. Use FACTS to support why you disagree. You’re going to meet a lot of people in the world that don’t think like you, so try to respond through meaningful conversation. Otherwise, you have nothing to stand on. I mean this with all sincerity. If you’d like to try again with your response to my article, you’re welcome to respond by applying what I suggested here.

Looks like the only way you can communicate is through name calling instead of intelligent conversation to share your point of view. not surprising, but it makes you look very unintelligent and name calling should have ended back in grade school. If you think name calling will stop our mission, you’re sadly mistaken. It only proves my point that you like others, need to see truth and open your eyes to the deception that is out there. Praying you do research and find TRUTH IN SCRIPTURE.

Seduced a married woman with no consequences revealed? On his way to meet up with her, he was attacked and possessed by a monster, then brutally murdered in the finale. Gay people are a part of life. I understand why you might be upset as to why they are in a tv show, but no one will be “turned gay” by Stranger Things. Also, there was a great redemption story with Billy, and his death was Christlike and sacrificial. He died to save everyone. And the show was never intended to be watched with the whole family. It is rated TV14, and you seem like the kind of person who takes ratings at their word. So… that doesn’t make sense.

Very insightful comment. Yes, all of those things did happen. But there are a lot of negative things portrayed that if not explained to young viewers, they would never come to the conclusions that you have.

Ok. Several things about this review. I understand the fact that you don’t the cussing, but of all the things seen in season 3 that aren’t family friendly, due to this show not being designed to be family friendly, it is TV 14, as in above 14 years of age are recommended be experts to watch this show, you choose to talk about how someone said “Oh my God,” and cussing? Why not the brutal killings, the enormous piles of sentient organs, or the possession references. And “he seduces a married woman with no consequences shown”. False. On his way to meet up with her, he gets involved in a car accident and is then possessed by the monster. He then dies in the finale as a result of this. And Robin having to come out as homosexual as the reason she didn’t want to be in a relationship with Steve isn’t hurting anyone. She exists. And happens to be lesbian. Big deal. I’m Catholic. And we believe, as Catholics, that if you don’t ACT on desires that are considered to be sinful, (I don’t consider Homosexuality or any aspect of it to be sinful, but I digress,) then Robin, the gay character in question, hasn’t done anything that you should consider wrong. Also, the good in this show far, far out weighs the bad. We get two very similar situations to Christ’s sacrifice, such as when Hopper died to save everyone, or when Billy woke up from the evil and died to protect one person. He died to save the life of a single person. Are we not taught that Christ died for each one of us individually, in a deeply personal and intimate way? Billy doing the same for Eleven is beautifully evocative of that. Also, complaining that the show isn’t family friendly? Not everything has to be. The big wide world we live in is massively beyond family friendly. Removing cussing from a Netflix show designed for older children, as in the other, more mature half of a family, isn’t going to change that. No one will go to hell as a result of watching this show, no one will “turn gay” as a result of this show, and no one will be encouraged to attempt to seduce married women as a result of this show. Thank you very much, have a great day.

I love how you point out your Catholic faith! In scripture, which is where we get our standard at Counter Culture Mom, it tells us that even if we think with our hearts… we have already committed the sin. This is why we are so adamant on protecting our minds and hearts from things like we have mentioned in this blog post.
Thanks again for your thoughtful comment! We love a great discussion.
