The Best Way To Create A Magical Christmas

by Bethany Dumbleton

Christmas is one of the most joyful times of the year!

Surely, we all can agree with that. This year will hopefully be no different. I think we could all use a normal holiday season after the crazy year we have had thus far. We have had a year full of politics, sickness, uncertainty, and that is just to name a few. You may still be recovering financially from our national shut down due to the pandemic, or you may be dealing with the stress of uncertainty for what is to come for our nation. Regardless, we want to help everyone to realize there is still reason for tremendous joy this Christmas. Christ has always been the center of Christmas, and as long as we keep him the center, it can still be a magical Christmas!

Christmas Memory Book

Sometimes, finances are tight, and that’s okay! We are never fond of going into debt for presents or to create a “Pinterest” worthy Christmas celebration. One of the coolest ideas we have seen is making a Christmas memory book! We got this idea from the Kitchen Table Classroom. She has a printable available for free that we highly encourage you to download and have prepared for the month of December. You can even get them laminated at the end of the season and have them for your kids to look back on as they grow up! For the download, just go here.

North Pole Cookie Delivery

Bake some cookies for your neighbors with your kids! You can get very cheap cookie cutters and nearly everything else you might need at the Dollar Tree! They have festive tin cans, goodie bags, and you can most likely find elf ears or Santa hats! Turn on your favorite holiday music and get to baking! One great cookie recipe we love is by Lil Luna, and can be found here! But she has an entire list of 25 different Holiday cookie recipes as well. After you get them all baked and packaged, dress up in your Santa hats or Christmas jammies, and have fun delivering!

Fostering A Fun Christmas

To stay in the true spirit of Christmas, which is giving, we recommend finding a family of foster kids to provide gifts for or kids that are in a shelter. Your children can learn so much from giving to other kids. We tend to focus so much on what we are getting our own children that we forget there are children who don’t have parents to provide for them their basic needs like new underwear, much less something fun to enjoy. Set aside a specific time to share with your children the reality that some kids live year after year, and encourage them to do some extra house chores and earn money to buy a gift for another child. Every kid should have a magical Christmas. For more ideas on how to give to other children, here is a great resource with multiple options.

Ditch The Screens For New Holiday Scenes

One of our favorite things to do is to settle in for Christmas movie nights with our matching pajamas, fuzzy socks, and baked goodies! But what if we replaced a few of those screen-filled nights with crafts instead? As we all know Pinterest is FILLED with craft ideas and most of them are pretty easy! But if you are looking for things that don’t take much planning we suggest going to your local Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree! They have so many things that are already packaged together that take NO planning whatsoever!

It’s Your Presence, Not The Presents

The most important thing in creating a magical Christmas for your children is to be present with them. I am guilty of staring at my iPhone screen and missing out on sweet moments that I will never get back. Our children are only in a season of innocence for a short period of time. They are so easy to please when we teach them what matters. It is never the presents that matter, but it is our presence. We need to lead by example in this area and cherish every moment we have with them!
