Mom Removes Offensive Shirts From Store Shelves

A mom who saw offensive shirts in a store window display didn’t just turn her head, but shared her concerns with the manager! Let’s do the same!

Judy Cox didn’t just share her thoughts about a PacSun t-shirt window display at a Utah mall…she did something about it. She spent $567 and bought every one of the sexually explicit shirts which were on display for people of all ages. An employee claimed she couldn’t take the shirts down until corporate headquarters gave her the OK. She also mentioned feeling uneasy about putting the almost completely naked models posing in a provocative manner on each shirt on display for all to see. This is just NOT OK!

offensive shirtsThe neat thing about Cox, is that she bought the shirts to get them out of the public eye and keep her community clean. She also knew her rights. Her city code prohibits anyone from putting “explicit sexual material” on public display. According to the Associated Press, “The city defines that as ‘any material that appeals to a prurient interest in sex and depicts nudity, actual or simulated sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or sadomasochistic abuse.'” Seeing the nature of the shirts, this would conclude that PacSun broke the law. Let’s hope justice prevails! Click here to see all the t-shirts that were for sale.

I am hoping that more and more adults in our country, will rise up when they see an issue and help others in need. Cox said her reason for buying all 19 shirts was to “inspire others to speak up within their communities. You don’t have to purchase $600 worth of T-shirts, but you can express your concerns to businesses and corporations who promote the display of pornography to children.”

If we as adults don’t protect our children, then who will? I just spoke at a youth event two nights ago and I challenged the teens that each and every one of us is either one of two things, part of the problem or part of the solution. I challenged them to find a problem within their communities that they could come up with a solution for in the next week and solve it. I am excited to see how they will use their creative minds and loving hearts to make a difference in our world today. We all need to have the eyes of a mom like Judy Cox and the boldness to do something about what we see that’s inappropriate. Doing this will make life that much more exciting!
