20 Jan, 2020 Parents Be Wary About YouTube Child Privacy Changes
According to a story in the New York Times, YouTube is making child privacy changes.
YouTube has a history of collecting information on everyone, including children, for ad targetting. Youtube is owned by Google, who was recently sued for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. In response, YouTube says they will make the following changes:
- YouTube will “limit collection and use of personal information from people who watch children’s videos…”
- YouTube will no longer show ads on children’s videos based on user activity data.
- Producers need to designate whether videos target children.
Even though they SAY they are making changes, parents still need to be cautious about online safety for kids.
